Auloniad II
Oil on linen
81 x 65 cm
2017

In the Greek mythology, the Auloniads were peacefull nymphs whose existence revolved around valleys, groves and pastures.
The original backdrop, abstract and plain red, was too bright, too agressive on the eyes.
The artist scraped it off, planning to replace it for something with softer tones...
... then realised he liked it the way it was.
The roughness of the scraped canvas contrasts happily with the smoothness, silkiness of the skin.
