Florence - Stretch & Flex

Oil on linen

65 x 81 cm

2016

In spirit, this painting is akin to two others nudes, depicting the same person.

One is entitled "FLORENCE - BLUE SHADES", and the other "FLORENCE - GREEN SHADES".

Technically, it differs in that the artist used neither paint rollers nor palette knives. Just plain brushes.

The emphasis is put on the flexing of every body muscle and the stretching of the arms.

The deep cut of the abdominal crease, above the curvature of the belly. The left leg fading into the abstract backdrop. Both arms reaching far forward. Hands fading too, barely perceptible in outline.

The whole body experiences the same tension applied to an archer's bow as it is being bent.
